Sweet: Impressive Cake Art

I don’t even think I would want to destroy this glorious ‘Starry Night’ cake by taking a piece out of it. Inspired by Vincent Van Gogh’s masterpiece of the same name, the creative dessert was meticulously created by Flickr user megpi of Silver Lake, California. The cake is constructed in multiple layers and shows yet another insane way to appreciate art.

Too Cool for School: Hermes Fingerboarding

This viral ad from fashion giants Hermes is pretty damn cool and while it displays all the skills one can perform on a fingerboard (finger skateboard), all the obstacles and mini-ramps are actually made from Hermes’ Fall/Winter 2010 collection. And while we admit that most of what we are seeing was manipulated post-production it is still pretty cool.

Quotes: Cus D’Amato

A boy comes to me with a spark of interest and it becomes a flame. I feed the flame and it becomes a fire, I feed the fire and it becomes a roaring blaze.

Environmentally Friendly: PCs for the Homeless

So not literally for the homeless but the Recompute desktop cardboard PC is very much a real thing. No way a man who lives in a cardboard box could afford the premium $1,000 price tag that this machine comes with.

This thing has ‘green’ written all over it. But of course for it to work the innards had to be real working devices and hardware from any standard desktop. I’m not too sure if this is a good idea though, what if the computer overheats. Can’t be too health and safety conscious can it? Extinguishers on standby please! Here are some more images: Continue reading

Scenes We Love: American Psycho

If Christian Bale isn’t the best method actor in the world right now, I don’t know who is. This guy kills it in everything. We will forgive him for Terminator Salvation; that was purely for economic and commercial reasons. And we will also forgive him for being overshadowed by the awesome and late Heath Ledger as the incomparable Joker in The Dark Knight. No one could have ever competed with that. No one will ever match it!

This is Bale in one of his more early roles and the one that launched his career. American Psycho is a classic and a work of art documenting the pressures and material shallowness of high society. His jealousy and envy and desire fuels his homicidal activity and experimentation with fear and violence. The film has some brilliant scenes, filled with comedy and satire and of course a brilliant portrayal of the psychopathic killer that is Patrick Bateman.

Conversation: V for Vendetta

Evey Hammond: Who are you?
V: Who? Who is but the form following the function of what and what I am is a man in a mask.
Evey Hammond: Well I can see that.
V: Of course you can. I’m not questioning your powers of observation I’m merely remarking upon the paradox of asking a masked man who he is.
Evey Hammond: Oh. Right.
V: But on this most auspicious of nights, permit me then, in lieu of the more commonplace sobriquet, to suggest the character of this dramatis persona.
V: Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin van-guarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition.
[carves V into poster on wall]
V: The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous.
[giggles]
V: Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it’s my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V.
